No Rush est le neuvième enregistrement studio du MegaOctet, ce petit grand big band de neuf musiciens en forme de laboratoire d’alchimie humaine et sonore hors normes.
No Rush… Prenons notre temps, écoutons, composons. Ce moment d’intense solitude que fut le confinement a été pour Andy Emler l’occasion d’une réécoute des musiques du XXème siècle (Arnold Schönberg, Witold Lutoslawsky, György Ligeti, Maurice Ohana, Philippe Manoury, Tristan Murail, Bernard Cavanna…), puis d’une intense phase d’écriture.
Dans cette suite composée tout spécialement pour les neuf musiciens virtuoses de l’orchestre (retour du guitariste Nguyên Lê qui participa à la première mouture du MegaOctet en 1989), on retrouve, étendue, la pâte, la signature sonore emlérienne. Ses combinatoires orchestrales (l’orchestre, le jeu collectif mis en avant, pas de solo de piano), ses mélismes et autres métissages, la couleur ravélienne associée au feu rythmique stravinskien, sa subtile dialectique composition/improvisation et ses alliages de timbres inédits.
Une fois de plus, Andy Emler est ici pianiste, compositeur, arrangeur, metteur en scène/en sons, mais aussi et surtout chef d’orchestre naturel, c’est-à-dire catalyseur d’énergies, d’enthousiasmes ; cela s’entend.
No Rush. La musique prend son temps. Elle est architecturée tout autant que mouvementée ; la masse orchestrale et le solipsisme, la nomenclature et l’aventure, l’autorité et la sensation, la ferveur et l’humour, le lyrisme et le murmure, le défrichement et le crissement, l’enlacement et l’enchantement, l’éclat et l’évidence.

No Rush is the ninth studio recording of the MegaOctet, this small big band of nine musicians in the form of an exceptional laboratory of human alchemy and sound.
No Rush… Let’s take our time, listen, compose. For Andy Emler, this moment of intense loneliness was the occasion to listen to 20th century music (Arnold Schönberg, Witold Lutoslawsky, György Ligeti, Maurice Ohana, Philippe Manoury, Tristan Murail, Bernard Cavanna, etc.), then an intense writing phase.
In this suite composed especially for the nine virtuoso musicians of the orchestra (return of guitarist Nguyên Lê who participated in the first version of MegaOctet in 1989), we find, extended, the paste, the Emlerian sound signature. His orchestral combinatorics (the orchestra, the collective play put forward, no piano solo), his melodies and other miscegenation, the Ravélienne color associated with the Stravinskien rhythmic fire, his subtle dialectic composition/improvisation and his original timbre alloys.
Once again, Andy Emler is here pianist, composer, arranger, director/sound, but also and above all natural conductor, that is to say catalyst of energies, of enthusiasm; this is understood.
No Rush. Music takes its time. It is architected as much as it is eventful; the orchestral mass and solipsism, nomenclature and adventure, authority and sensation, fervor and humour, lyricism and murmuring, clearing and squealing, embracing and enchantment, the brilliance and the evidence.
