This new opus is the result of the twenty-year-old partnership between Jean Christophe Cholet and Mathieu Michel. With this recording project they have set their mind on stopping Time to share a privileged moment of intimacy under the attentive hearing
of G de Haro, the director and artistic producer of the record.
There, in the ‘ bubble ‘ of La Buissonne Studio, they have answered the artistic expectations of the producer, being guided into an unexpected universe in order to record an album full of colors, calm but also emotions.
This can only be reached in the magic atmosphere of this unique recording studio. Far from being of a demonstrative virtuosity their music carries us beyond Time, in an atmosphere of a rare serenity.
To go back to the basics and give a’ true meaning ‘to each note, such was the demand of Gerard de Haro.
Ramon Lopez (drums) and Didier Ithursarri (accordion) were spontaneously invited to share this exceptional moment and their generosity is immediately felt and communicative. The different music touches are in harmony with the quiet and intense breath of MM when JC Cholet is ‘weaving’ his fluid and dreamy background notes.... Never does one musician shine more than the other, their music comes from the heart and magnifies itself in duo, trio or quartet.
This music is just beautiful because it’s naturally simple, leaving each one of us in their own melody

À l'intersection de la musique classique et du jazz, le compositeur et pianiste français
Jean-Christophe Cholet est passé maître dans la confection de petites pièces intenses, sans artifices. Sur Whispers, il renoue avec Matthieu Michel, son complice de 20 ans, pour poser ensemble les bases d'un dialogue feutré mais profond, comme un long souffle ininterrompu.

Enregistré au studio de La Buissonne, ce nouvel album met en lumière la recherche d'essentialité du duo plongé dans une atmosphère d'une rare sérénité. Guidés par le producteur Gérard de Haro, Jean-Christophe Cholet et Matthieu Michel drapent Whispers dans un écrin de soie noir profond où se mêlent échanges lumineux et plongées dramatiques, en prenant soin d'écarter toute virtuosité démonstrative. La complémentarité du duo illustre l'évidence de la collaboration, capable d'habiller l'espace avec peu de notes, sans jamais laisser place à une impression de vide.

Invités à partager ce moment singulier, Ramon Lopez (batterie) et Didier Ithursarry (accordéon) complètent les compositions du duo sans jamais les défigurer. Le souffle originel à deux prend une nouvelle dimension à trois ou quatre. Une aisance dans l'interaction entre les musiciens qui prouve à quel point ce Whispers a été conçu de la meilleure des manières : une recherche de dépouillement et de simplicité, ouvrant la voie à l'expression fluide de chants profondément vivants et personnels.

I love this album. The improvised tracks on the first CD are magical, exploring a lot of territory without ever leaving the listener behind. The second CD is a feast of standards and originals. The playing by all three musicians is incredible. They can do anything, but there's never a second of empty virtuosity. If you don't own a copy of this album - buy it now! slowmo

Soren is the master of silence. There is a beauty, eloquence and sophistication with this style of sparse playing that takes discipline to hold back, especially in this fast pace society. There's a sprinkling of piano, the bass subtly sneaks in and the brushes and cymbals find space. The notes linger and there's silence in between. Like fine wine the music breathes and it's almost a meditative experience. Just lovely! Rob O.
